How lanterns and territory work

01 · The hunt

Hunt too many wolves, and their king comes.

Monsters roam real parks and streets. Kill enough wolves in one area and Fenrir, their chained king, rises nearby to hunt you. Imps and goblins have kings too. Bring friends: Fenrir hits pets twice as hard.

Reckoning bossesFenrir · Cinder Tyrant · Hobgoblin

How combat works

02 · Pets

Bring a pet. Maybe a dragon.

Every Claimant starts with a Veilfox that sniffs out prey. Later, choose a Wolf or a Boar at the Mother Tree, bind a Phase Skitterer, or hatch a Dragon from a Dragon Lair egg. Pets fight beside you, and each has its own skills.

04 · Kingdoms

Build a kingdom, then defend it.

Raise a Castle on land you've claimed to found a kingdom. Add towers that fire on enemies, invite your neighbors, and declare war on the kingdom next door. If your Castle falls, your kingdom is gone for good.

Castle · 200,000 HPCastles stand 2 km apart
  • Kingdom Towers Five levels, up to 50,000 HP. They fire on enemies while you're at war.
  • War Towers 10,000 HP. Raise one within 1,000 m of your front.
  • War Outposts 20,000 HP. A rally point for your members.
  • Declare war Kingdom against kingdom. Watchful Borders buys a 6 hour warning.
  • Golem Frames Wake a Golem Core and build a Ranger, Breaker, Cinder or Bastion Engine at your Armory or Siege Factory. A destroyed Frame is gone for good.

Before you step through

What kind of game is Fractara?

A location-based fantasy MMO: the real map of Earth is your overworld. Explore, fight monsters, gather resources, craft gear and claim territory alongside other players. Dungeons called pocket dimensions take you beyond the map.

Is it free to play?

Yes. You can create a character and start your adventure for free.

Where can I play?

In your browser on any phone, tablet or computer, in the Android app on Google Play, in the desktop app for Mac and Linux from the download page, and on iPhone in the TestFlight beta or the browser. The App Store and Steam versions are coming soon.

How do I start playing?

Open the game in your browser on your phone or computer, or get the Android app. Create an account and make your character: it's the same character everywhere you play. Then light your first lantern on the street outside.

Do I play where I really am?

Yes. Like other GPS games, Fractara reads your device's location and puts you on the real map, and where you stand decides what you meet. Light a lantern within 30 m of where you stand and the ground within 270 m becomes yours. A lantern can also become an anchor you travel back to later.

What are lanterns for?

Lanterns hold back the Rift, the grey land between the stable places where Phase Skitterers feed. Craft one from 2 Wood and 1 Leather in 10 seconds, light it, and the ground within 270 m is yours. Light enough of them and you have a home. Hold them together and you have a kingdom.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Hunt bosses as a party, take a group into the dungeons, and found or join a kingdom with the people next door.

Is Fractara connected to Parallel Kingdom?

No. Fractara is an independent game by Mask. It's inspired by the genre, but it isn't affiliated with Parallel Kingdom or PerBlue. See how the games compare.

Wasn't Fractara called Thrones RPG?

Yes. Thrones RPG is now Fractara: Age of Claimants. It's the same project with a new name. Read about the name change.

I played the beta. What carries over?

The launch world starts fresh, so beta characters, items, and coins stay behind. Sign up with the same email you used in the beta and your character's name is held for you until November 14.
